What can I expect on my first visit?

Chiropractic care is different. It is this difference that offers new ways to get well and stay well. You’ll meet the doctor after filling out some brief paper work describing you and your health history.

On your first visit a detailed history will be taken to determine the probable cause of your complaints. Dr Mancarella will sit down with you to discuss your condition. He will perform an evaluation studying your posture and movements. This will help locate the areas of your spine that may have muscular imbalances that could contribute to your problem. He will perform orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic tests. Based on this evaluation a treatment plan will be created. Not all conditions are the same and as conditions are different so are the treatment plans.

Will I have to have X-rays or other special tests?

Dr Mancarella tries to limit x-ray exposure whenever possible. X-rays of your spine, especially after trauma, can confirm our other findings and make your care more precise. Not all cases need x-rays to determine cause. Dr Mancarella can tell if we need them after completing the examination. When the presentation requires additional test such as x-rays, MRI, CT scan, or EMG, Dr. Mancarella will refer you to one of the many conveniently located facilities in the area.

How long until I feel better?

Some patients experience almost instant relief others take longer depending on the causes of the condition. Factors which can affect the healing process include cause of the injury, number of injuries, your age, your overall health condition, muscle tone, diet and even your attitude.

What type of treatment should I expect?

Dr.Mancarella, uses effective spinal manipulation techniques to treat many spinal related conditions. In his 26 plus years of practice he has found that manipulation combined with specific exercises, stretching, ergonomic training, soft tissue therapy such as massage, trigger point therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound and various other techniques provide symptomatic relief from pain, stiffness, and the stress that results from being uncomfortable for prolonged periods of time.

Some patients may not be candidates for traditional manipulation techniques based on co-existing conditions or medications that increase risk factors. In these cases alternative gentler techniques are used to address the condition such as activator, soft tissue and other gentle techniques. Multiple conditions have similar symptoms. If Dr. Mancarella determines that your condition is not spinal related, he will refer you the appropriate health care provider.
